Israel’s military chief has formally dismissed former Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi over the explosive Sde Teiman prison leak scandal.
The case centered on leaked surveillance footage that allegedly showed the abuse of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers inside the controversial Sde Teiman detention facility.
Tomer-Yerushalmi, who was initially involved in investigating the incident, later became the main suspect in the leak itself. She eventually resigned and admitted to leaking the footage.
The IDF says Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir decided to move ahead with her dismissal because of the “severity” of the allegations and ongoing criminal proceedings. The move also strips her of financial benefits usually granted to senior officers after service.
The scandal sparked major debate inside Israel over military accountability, whistleblowing and the treatment of Palestinian detainees during the Gaza war.
Notably, charges against the five reservists accused of abusing the detainee were ultimately dropped.

Four people — including two children — were killed after a train slammed into a school minibus in Buggenhout, northern Belgium. Authorities said the impact was so violent that the vehicle was thrown nearly 15 metres into a metal pylon.
Seven children, along with a supervisor and the driver, were reportedly on board the minibus at the time of the collision. No passengers on the train were injured.
Images from the scene showed the minibus badly mangled beside the railway tracks as emergency crews set up tents around the wreckage.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said he was “deeply moved” by the disaster, while Deputy PM Maxime Prevot called it a “tragic collision.”
The train was reportedly travelling at around 120 km/h when the crash occurred.

As diplomacy intensifies on ending the Iran war, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited India's world-famous monument, the Taj Mahal. Rubio, on his first-ever visit to India, flew to Agra and spent 45 minutes at the Taj Mahal with his wife Jeanette, who usually shuns the spotlight. "It's one of the wonders of the world," the top US diplomat said of the Taj Mahal. The couple posed for pictures on the bench from where Princess Diana was photographed alone in an iconic 1992 shot.
