I’ve decided I will not make anymore response videos. They take far too much time away from my writing. I never should have started to begin with, but I’m not used to this level of attention. I’m still learning how to properly navigate it. I will also not engage in debates, but I am still open to coming on other channels for cordial exchanges. This will be my policy from now on.

I unfortunately had to block the Bookish Texan, a YouTuber I follow. I was reluctant to do so because I actually enjoyed some of his content, but he engaged in a bad faith exchange with me where he displayed passive-aggressive and hostile behavior. He was responding to my Devil’s advocate video, completely misreading my intentions. Here is the conversation below:

Bookish Texan: So you made a video to expose the stupidity of your subscribers and others who chose to watch your video.
Joseph V. Logsdon: I wouldn’t frame it as absolute as that. I was trying to expose the limitations of some viewers and possibly bring out the analytical skills in others.
Bookish Texan: So you made a whole video to expose the stupidity some of your subscribers and viewers.
Joseph V. Logsdon: That’s the least charitable interpretation. It was about testing attention spans and the hubris of viewership bias.
Bookish Texan: Oh there is definitely hubris involved.

As you can see, he gives the least charitable interpretations of my responses and engages in passive-aggressive behavior, abandoning his argument entirely in the end and getting personal. I expected better from another content creator.

The hypocrisy here is also quite blatant. I’m aware that he leans towards a progressive worldview on his channel, preaching tolerance and acceptance, but in his own personal behavior, he is none of those things, revealing the true hollowness of his character. I, on the other hand, can sound harsh in my rhetoric, but always try to treat individual people with kindness and respect. I may make a video in the future on performative moralism in the author community.

It’s amazing how many people fell for my Devil’s Advocate video, even though I reveal what I’m doing 5 and a half minutes in. It was an experiment in measuring the attention span of my audience.

I would like to announce that I have deleted most of my old movie reviews out of copyright concerns. I hated to do it, but I ultimately think it’s best for the channel. I spent long hours working on some of them, but they are no longer relevant to my current goals. All the same, I will miss them.

I will be hosting a livestream tomorrow at 8pm. It will be in Central Time. I will try to answer your questions. I hope to see you there. I’m monetized now, so Supers are an option.

I loved recording a podcast with Some Okie Dude Yesterday. It lasted around two and a half hours. I don’t know when it will be out. He said it might be a while, but I will let people know when it is. I still intend to do a livestream on my channel, but there’s been some kind of family obligation almost every day this week. I hope to get to it next week.

When I reach 3k subscribers, I might do a livestream in celebration. I’m monetized now, so Supers are an option.
