Secrets of Dune

I created a whole STAR WARS backstory for Luke's clothing in ROTJ. Seeing as though it's May and Star Wars is celebrated this month, I thought I'd tell you of a quick tale.

A mysterious figure roams the streets of Tatooine with a tattered, worn cloak, seemingly singed by blaster fire. It's Luke! He senses a presence which reminds him of the Dagobah cave; not as ominous and dark as that place, but a similar force of power. It is what lead him here. He follows his senses until he finds an opening to a shop. "Your cloak has seen better days, friend," a deep, voice bellows. Though it was deep, Luke sensed that it was kind.

Within the dusty, dimly lit shop he finds a many-handed 'master-weaver.' "You require a buon’ni burda, a tunic and a uniform, I can tell this by looking at you." Seeing as though Luke was in need of new attire he decides to hire his services, but this tailor of Tatooine was more than he seemed.

With his many fingers he weaves what would be the cloak and tunic that would accompany Luke to Jabba's Palace, the Death Star to his father and finally to Endor. "I have made garments for many a Jedi. I know a Jedi when I see one." But how did he know he was a Jedi? This was no ordinary weaver. These were no ordinary threads and this was no ordinary encounter. He knew of the light and dark in Luke and wove the white beneath his black tunic, for good reason. The 'Burda' cloak he created would carry an imbued mystical quality about it and the being Luke meets that day might be the most important one he has ever met.

The story was called: The Burda of Skywalker, to honor the Tunisian roots of Tatooine and the history of the Star Wars production there.

I had the idea when I read some 'From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back' stories. I had no idea the ROTJ version was released.

The concept was pretty fascinating and I think some brilliant stories came out of it. I wanted to pitch the story to the publishers but I never ended up doing so, for many reasons, perhaps a lack of confidence. Why would they hire someone like me? Essentially a nobody in that field.

I guess it will forever remain a little bit of lore in my head. Congrats to everyone who worked on the project, I think it was a wonderful concept. #maythefourth #StarWars
