The Lawn Guardian

John Smith, this isn't a company. I'm just a DIYer that enjoys the outdoors and all things lawn care. Come along with me as I show you how I manage my lawn and landscaping in the St. Louis, MO area. I'm always learning from people with more knowledge about lawn care, so there's a chance I could teach you something as I share this information with you!

It was awesome to see the neighbors and kids enjoying the lawn this past weekend for my son's birthday party. We had a backyard movie night! The kids loved seeing 170" of Toy Story. @lture 's classic 20" @rniatrimmer helped me get the #IronCutter primed for the party with a double cut. The #ironcutterbermuda is looking dang good for it only being in middle of May.

This is from May 11th after the first mow since scalping 6 weeks prior on March 30th. I wasn't able to mow earlier because I didn't have a reel mower and it really hadn't gotten tall enough to mow with my rotary mower. Thanks to ‪@TurfCulture‬and ‪@kove‬I was able to borrow their reel mower and give the #IronCutter a good trim. I'm very happy with the spring green up. It won't be long before it's back in its prime.

Okay, today we're 1 day shy of being 7 weeks since the sprigs went down on 6/3/23. This picture was taken yesterday, 7/20/23. The slope up by the tree and areas along the parkway are some of the last areas to fill in but it's all moving along very well. I'm extremely happy with the progress. I have been using a manual reel mower every other day since around week 4. The HOC is currently 3/4" or 19mm. I haven't had a minute to record an update video and explain what all I have been doing but I will get to that as soon as life allows. I tend to show more frequent updates on my Instagram account because it's just easier to make a quick post, so follow me there if you'd like. Thanks for the support everyone, have a great Friday!

12 days post sprigging and it's about to hit the gas. I know it might not look like much is happening here, but there is lots of new leaf tissue! #Ironcutter

From the field at Heartland Turf Farm this morning, straight to the ground in my yard! Ironcutter sprigs are installed and rolled in! Watering has commenced! Thank you to ‪@TurfCulture‬ ‪@Mowssouri‬ and ‪@seansmidwestlawn8991‬ for all of the help this morning to get these down super fast. I can't wait to see this fill in!

I'm not about just showing the good on here, so here's how the lawn looks right now. From a distance things look fine but I definitely have my trouble spots. The lawn as a whole is not nearly as bad as it was in 2020 so there's that. Some of these spots are due to not overseeding last fall but mother nature always let's you know who's in control. Cool season lawns in the transition zone are definitely a challenge to maintain during the hot and humid late spring and summer months.

Thank you for all the support! This YT journey has been fun. I remember thinking I'd never reach 1000 subs when I started so reaching this milestone is pretty neat. To everyone that watches, comments, and likes my videos it is all very much appreciated. Have a great memorial day weekend!

The Lawn Guardian

Hey everyone, spring is almost here and I am excited to get going in the lawn! I wanted to give you all an update on what I was up to last year and what I plan to do moving forward on my channel this year! As many of you know, I took some time away from much of my presence on YouTube last season to reprioritize my time as a father, husband, and my job as stay at home dad.
.

This year I plan to return to making videos with a goal of one video per month with a few live streams sprinkled in here and there. Anything more frequent just isn't going to work with my young growing family. My first video for 2022 will be an update on the lawn and what I did in it during fall of 2021. I want to thank all of your for your continued support even during my absence and I look forward to getting back into it this year with some fresh content!
.

Although I wasn't making videos last year I was still plenty busy catching up on outdoor projects like restoring our deck, installing up lighting on the house and landscaping, tending our garden, and of course maintaining the lawn.

.
In regards to our 32sqft garden, in 2021 I was shocked to learn that we harvest a total of 170lbs of food for the entire year in such a small garden.
.

Here are some pictures from these projects, our fall garden harvest, and what the lawn looked like at the end of the 2021 lawn season in November.
