The 2-4 hours you spend scrolling each day (or 730-1460 hours each year) is more than enough time to write a book, build a business, or get in shape.

In the moment, it seems like nothing.

That's why it's so dangerous.

Your time disappears without you being conscious of it.

The phone isn't the addiction.

The feeling it kills is.

I know this because I watched the same logic play out with alcohol.

Everyone who drinks too much knows it's costing them time, money, health, relationships.

The information doesn't stop the behaviour.

It occasionally intensifies the guilt, which then becomes another thing to drink over.

Scrolling works the same way.

The people spending four hours a day on their phones are not unaware that four hours a day is a lot of time.

They know.

They do it anyway.

Because the phone isn't solving a scheduling problem.

It's solving a discomfort problem.

I've been sober since Boxing Day 2023.

Getting off alcohol didn't free up time in any meaningful sense until I understood what the alcohol was for.

The good thing is also I turned my life to God! I am born again In Jesus Christ 🙏 soon to be recognized as a Pastor.

Once I understood that about alcohol, the hours sorted themselves out.

The sequence matters.

Deal with what the behaviour is managing first.

The time returns on its own.

The books 📚, the businesses, the fitness, these are fine aspirations.

But they require sustained discomfort.

Planning, uncertainty, the gap between where you are and where you're trying to get.

Scrolling is frictionless relief from exactly that feeling.

Telling someone they have 1,460 hours available doesn't make those hours any easier to inhabit.

It just adds the weight of knowing they're wasting them to everything else they're already carrying.

You don't have a time problem.
