Hello and welcome. On this channel I explore the beauty or the natural world found in the city and beyond. I love exploring city parks and beaches, museums, zoos, and aquariums.
Happy Arbor Day! The first Arbor Day was 154 years ago, and was started by J. Sterling Morton. Morton was a journalist and politician in Nebraska that encouraged environmental activism and tree planting, thus proposed a holiday which people could celebrate and observe the beauty and importance of trees.
This is a photo from car of lodgepole pines in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
These photos take us to the land down under…in Cleveland?
They come from my visit to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo from last year May 2025. I saw a few firsts there including dingoes and the Matschie’s tree kangaroo. Some familiar faces were the budgerigars in their walkthrough aviary. It was a great trip and I hope to visit some of the other big zoos in Ohio soon.
I had a great time hiking Starved Rock State Park with some friends. We saw some incredible animals, including a great horned owl. While not a rare or endangered species, owls can be elusive which makes seeing them always a special treat.
This week I visited South Dakota and got some great footage of trails and some wildlife. Badlands National Park and the Black Hills were the two major places I visited. Both are absolutely gorgeous and I had an amazing experience on the trails.
Its been very cold out here in Chicago and I think I’m ready for the winter to settle down. For now, there are still plenty of indoor places to keep warm. Here is a photo from inside the fern room at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Nothing beats the fresh and earthy smell you’re hit with when you enter this room.
Thank you all for subscribing and I appreciate the new attention my channel has gotten from the aquarium shorts. Here is a photo of the green anaconda habitat at the Shedd Aquarium I took a couple days ago.
Residents of Chicago have been blessed with some Arctic vacationers. At least two snowy owls have been hanging out around Montrose Beach and these two have been popular among wildlife enthusiasts and photographers for a few weeks now. This photo was taken by a friend and shared with me.
