Cycle Maintenance Academy

To look after your bike, and do cycle maintenance, you don't really need a stocked workshop. You don't even have to be a practical person. What you need is clear guidance. We've stripped down bike maintenance in to easy to follow steps. We've laid everything neatly out on the workbench and given you your own non jargon talking expert who is happy to repeat as many times as you need.

Our aim is to help anyone with their cycle maintenance queries. We hope this will encourage safe cycling and ensure that all cyclists can enjoy trips on their bicycle without interuption.

Is Europe’s e-bike boom already over?
Electric bikes have moved firmly into the mainstream, and in some European countries they now account for around half of all bicycle sales. But when you look at the latest data, the picture becomes much more complicated.
Across eight major European markets, e-bike sales fell from 4.28 million units in 2023 to 4.07 million in 2024 — a drop of almost 5%.
But the situation is very different from country to country.
So are e-bikes still growing, or has the market entered a slowdown?
In my new video, I examine the European e-bike market country by country, using real industry data.

What is happening where you live? Are you seeing more e-bikes on the roads, or are prices still holding the market back?

Dawes Cycles was once one of the most trusted names in British cycling.
For many riders, the Dawes Galaxy was the number 1 touring bike — practical, reliable, and ready for real journeys.
But what happened to Dawes?
How did a respected British bicycle brand go from family ownership and touring-bike fame to changing hands again and again?
Why did the Galaxy become such an important bike?
And why did this legendary model finally disappear after almost 50 years?
I’ve been digging into the story of Dawes Cycles — from its Birmingham roots to the rise of the Galaxy, financial trouble, ownership changes, and the slow loss of identity.
The full story will be available from this Saturday morning, so stay tuned!
This one is for anyone who remembers Dawes, owned a Galaxy, or loves the history behind classic British bike brands. 🚲

Would you still ride a Dawes Galaxy today?

Many famous bike brands today belong to global conglomerates or investment groups. But I found a few exceptions. These brands are different because they started as family businesses and are still connected to the same families, generations later.
In my new video, I look at four unique brands that carry stories of workshops, racing, old bike shops, family decisions, and knowledge passed down through generations.
The video is already available for channel members, and it will be released for everyone this Saturday morning — so keep an eye out! 😊

P.S. Would you rather buy from a family-owned bike brand, or does it not matter to you? 👇

Are 32-inch wheels the future of cycling… or just another bike industry experiment? I spoke with Jake Law from Vittoria Tyres about the rise of 32” wheels, whether they could replace 29ers, and where they might actually make sense — mountain biking, gravel, racing, or maybe only for taller riders.
We also talk about prototype tyres, frame-size limitations, mixed wheel setups, and whether 32” wheels are a genuine game changer or just a gimmick.

Look at your bike for a second 🚲 — it’s like a showroom of different component logos. Each one looks like its own specialist.
But here’s the twist: a lot of those “independent-looking” brands are actually connected under a handful of bigger parent companies. In my newest video, I mapped the ownership links — and the timeline of how those portfolios were built.
The video goes live this Saturday morning so stay tuned 🎥

P.S. Do you think this consolidation is good for riders, bad, or a bit of both?

In the early 1980s, a Swedish company linked to Volvo introduced what it believed was the bicycle of the future. They had a vision that plastic could replace steel and change the bicycle world. The dream machine was meant to be light, affordable, and last almost forever. Instead, it became one of cycling’s most unusual engineering failures.
So what went wrong with the plastic composite bicycle project?
Find out in my newest podcast on the channel: https://youtu.be/xHrKMyoU0Ps
Would you ride a plastic bike if it promised to last forever? 🚲

Who really owns your favourite bike brands? 👀
Most of us look at the logo on the frame and think we know the brand. But behind the scenes, the bike industry gets a lot more connected than it seems.

In this upcoming video, I’m diving deeper into the bike ownership map — from brands that grew out of other brands, to rivals that are actually owned by the same group, to famous names that are only operated under licence.
You might be surprised how many “different” bike brands are linked behind the scenes.

Before the video goes live, let me ask you this:
Which bike brand do you think has the most interesting ownership story?
And have you ever discovered that two brands you thought were completely separate were actually part of the same company?
Drop your guesses in the comments 👇

I’ve got some very interesting names coming in this one.
