EEVblog

I've updated the EEVblog job description to focus more on the electronics side, and way less on the on-screen stuff. It wasn't obvious that being an on-screen talent was optional, and I think that turned a lot of people away.
So please review again if you are interested, thanks.

UPDATE: So, Solar Analytics (now Catch Power) finally contacted me and aren't too happy that I made a (genuine) mistake in my recent video. Where I didn't see where to correctly click to show me the web price was indeed $95.
I had already pinned the comment to correct that, but it seems they didn't see that or don't care.

Instead of just ignoring the whole thing and refunding me and that's the end of it, they actually want me to make a follow-up video pointing out my mistake.
They are literally ASKING to be Streisand Effected with another video! 🤣

The full NBN story:

01-05-2026 03:20:30PM
Field Services have confirmed that splicing has completed and services are progressively restoring. Network Engineers have advised full restoration is expected within the next hour.

01-05-2026 10:21:37AM
Field Services have confirmed that fibre splicing has commenced. This is expected to take several hours. nbn will update on the next significant change.

01-05-2026 03:22:27AM
The fibre cable has been installed between the two manholes, and the site is being made safe. Technicians will start preparing the cable ends at 03:30. Due to traffic control requirements, work must stop at 5:00 am and will resume under day Road Occupancy Licences from 10:00 to 02:00. Splicing and customer restoration are expected to be completed by 14:00. nbn will share additional updates as soon as they are available.

30-04-2026 10:27:27PM
TC and Civils crews are now onsite and working. The Project Manager and Area Manager are present with the teams. The Project Manager has confirmed that one civil crew is currently pipe proving to prepare for the 72F cable installation, while other crews are locating services and checking the planned work route. Updates will be shared as they become available.

30-04-2026 08:32:54PM
A civil crew with Traffic Control is expected on site at 9:30pm tonight to prepare for works which will commence at 10:00pm. They will assess options to restore services using existing pathways where possible and investigate alternatives if this is not possible.

30-04-2026 07:54:50PM
The restoration option of using existing underground pathways is not viable due to congestion. As a result, repairs will proceed via the approved civil works approach, expected to commence tomorrow night. In parallel, nbn and the asset owners are scheduled to meet tomorrow to confirm whether the copper cable can be safely removed to allow alternative restoration options. An ETA is not yet available and will be provided once confirmed.

30-04-2026 01:02:19PM
The restoration design proposal has been approved, and restoration activities will now commence. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

30-04-2026 10:52:43AM
A technician is en-route to the site with the Aerial Manager.

30-04-2026 12:31:42AM
The technician attended site and completed multiple checks; however, details about the affected network cables could not be confirmed on site. Further checks are required with the relevant asset owner to confirm the status of these cables. nbn was advised that the asset owners will investigate this during business hours.

29-04-2026 08:43:52PM
Technicians are on site and restoration activities are in progress.

29-04-2026 06:09:19PM
An additional technician has been requested, and the assigned technician is expected to arrive by 18:30. Further updates will be shared as they become available.

29-04-2026 03:34:14PM
Please be advised that scope of works is still being assessed and further reviewed to formulate the best course of action in restoring services. Further updates will be advised when available.

29-04-2026 01:41:25PM
Hi Team, While the outage here is understandably beyond NBN's control, and we can very much appreciate that services will be restored as fast as is practically possible - are you able to clarify that the ETR of 8/5 is accurate or is this just tentative at present? Thank you.

29-04-2026 09:39:06AM
The drilling contractor has attended site to assess the practicability of completing a drill shot along the existing alignment between the two manholes. They have advised that there is very high risk of potentially damaging further infrastructure and will not undertake any work. At present they are assessing to see if an alternative route can be taken. Further updates will be advised when available.

28-04-2026 11:45:18AM
The council has approved the Land Access and Road Opening permissions for civil works at the site. nbn has engaged the civil works team, who are expected to arrive on site tomorrow morning. nbn will provide further updates as they become available.

26-04-2026 09:28:35PM
Please note, this is a summary of the situation. 1. The delay in restoring services is due to damaged fibre and conduit caused by a third party. Restoration will require the replacement of more than 400 metres of fibre, including works beneath a roundabout. 2. A temporary restoration solution is not feasible, as it would pose unacceptable safety risks to the public. Any temporary cabling run of this length would need to traverse trees, footpaths, and busy intersections. This option has been assessed on two occasions by Field Services, including senior personnel, and has been deemed unsafe. 3. Permanent restoration works also require Land Access and Road Opening permissions from the local council, as the damaged conduit runs beneath a roadway. As this is a long weekend, the council is closed, and these approvals are outside nbns control. In addition, the works will require a directional driller, with the earliest availability currently forecast for Wednesday. 4. At this stage, nbn expects council permissions to be obtained on Tuesday once the council reopens. Subject to approvals, traffic control, civil assistance, and specialist resources will then be coordinated, with restoration works likely to occur on Wednesday night for safety reasons. All updates will continue to be provided via this incident ticket on significant change. Should any material changes occur, they will be communicated here.

26-04-2026 07:54:30AM
nbn advises that the previously proposed temporary restoration option will not proceed due to safety and risk considerations. A permanent restoration solution will be progressed instead. Network Engineers will continue working on the permanent plan, which requires appropriate approvals. Due to the public holiday tomorrow, further updates will be provided on Tuesday 28/04/2026.

25-04-2026 09:07:10PM
nbn advises that this is a complex issue. The current plans proposed for restoration are not standard practice and therefore require high level approval. No further action will take place overnight, and Network Engineers will work on securing the restoration plan during the day tomorrow. nbn will not provide further updates until there is a change in status tomorrow.

25-04-2026 06:52:51PM
The senior tech is considered a temporary solution by running ~450m - ~600m of slave cabling, however it maybe this is not feasible due to safety reasons - the tech is enquiring with additional resources to confirm the solution will not present unreasonable risks to staff or the public.

25-04-2026 05:02:09PM
A senior technician is on-site providing a second opinion for interim or alternative solutions.

25-04-2026 04:17:26PM
A technician has been engaged to attend the site to complete further assessment and determine the fastest approach to restore services, including options such as running a temporary cable. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

25-04-2026 01:24:29PM
Due to an administrative error, a related incident (INC000022074999) was closed prematurely. Ongoing network impact is being tracked under this incident. No temporary solution is available. The cable is broken underneath a round-about, caused by works by a third-party. To restore services, a directional driller is required to assist with the installation of new conduit underneath the round-about. A driller was not available for over a week - nbn has expedited this and arranged a driller tentatively for Wednesday the 29th next week, however works will also require Land Access (LACS) permissions from Council to shut down a road while running new conduit. Works are expected to be significant. LACS are not available over the long weekend, with Monday as a Public Holiday, the earliest LACs can be approved is Tuesday. 28th April. Works may also need to be completed overnight for safety reasons, pending approvals.
