Should you be using adhesives or sealants?
While it may appear insignificant, to be absolutely clear: although sealants have many beneficial uses the installation of windscreens is not one of them, here are some examples of why you must use a proper polyurethane adhesive when installing bonded glass to vehicles.
✅Adhesives(polyurethane)
1. Creates a strong bond between the window and the vehicle frame, ensuring a secure and durable installation.
2. Ideal for attaching and enclosing dissimilar materials such as glass and metal.
3. Resistant to extreme temperatures, making it ideal for use in vehicles that are exposed to high temperatures and sun exposure.
4. Waterproof, which is an important consideration for vehicles that are exposed to rain and other types of precipitation.
❌Sealants(silicone)
1. Intended to create a pliable covering that primarily fills spaces and prevents water from entering (for example, sealing bathroom sinks).
2. Become malleable under high heat and humidity, making them inadequate for structural attaching in different climates.
3. Insufficient at junctions and displays elongated trailing when used.
4. Not as resistant to UV light, which can cause the sealant to deteriorate over time.
In conclusion, when it comes to installing vehicle windows, a polyurethane adhesive specifically formulated for this purpose should be the only choice. Silicone sealants should be avoided at all costs due to their limitations in strength and durability. To ensure proper installation, it is best to use a seasoned auto glass installer or, if attempting to do it yourself, to thoroughly research and educate oneself before proceeding.

DID YOU KNOW....
A laminated windscreen or windshield is made of two layers of glass with a layer of plastic film sandwiched between them. The plastic film, called a PVB (polyvinyl butyral) layer, acts as an adhesive and helps to hold the two layers of glass together. The PVB layer also helps to reduce the amount of noise and vibration transmitted through the windscreen, as well as increasing its strength and durability. The laminated windscreen is then sealed around the edges to prevent moisture or debris from entering between the layers.

If you get a chip or crack on your Windscreen, don't panic it is perfectly safe to drive the vehicle until you get it fixed.
All modern road vehicles(with a few exceptions) front Windscreens are made from laminated glass(two layers of glass with a plastic laminate sheet sandwiched between the two layers)
Which means they will never shatter or cave in from chips or cracks.
