Cars That Couldn’t Save the British car Industry Episode 3 The Rover 200. In Episode 1 & 2 we discussed The Rover 75 and The Rover SD1. In Episode 3 we discuss The Rover 200. Born through the partnership with Honda. The Rover 200 had many layers., The Rover 200 started life as the Triumph Acclaim which was a rebadged Honda Ballard. In 1984 The Rover 200 MK was born again collaboration with Honda was a success then in 1989 The Rover 200 R8 series was born. Again with Honda collaboration similar to the Honda Concerto. The Rover 200 R8 was a massive success. The K series engine was a game changer. A head ahead of it time but the head gasket was a major issue for Rover. In 1995 the Rover 200 evolved into the Rover R3 which came with a Grill and new design. Aimed at the younger professional it was a success. In 1999 the next generation came out who h was a redesign 200 called the Rover 25 a couple of years later the 200 got a sports package which became the MGZR. In 2004 The Rover 25 had a modern facelift but by that time the 200 was a againg platform and people saw through the pretty body with old fashioned design. Rover tried to bring the Rover Streetwise a new urban version of the 25 but again everyone saw through it. In 2005 Rover collapsed and Longbridge was closed for good. The Rover 200 had the chance to save Rover but in the end it couldn't save them.
