Community leaders teach the community how to plant and care for them. Then, each household takes home a few saplings 🌱

The leaders then visit the families and help keep track of how the trees are growing.

Less concrete, more trees.

Trees are nature’s air conditioner 🌳 They lower air and surface temperatures, release moisture into the air, filter pollution from the air and create homes for wildlife.

But many cities are dominated by concrete and tall buildings instead, absorbing the sun's heat and reducing wind flow.

That's one of the reasons cities can be up to 5°C hotter than rural areas.*

Urban trees aren't decoration. In a warming climate, they’re essential infrastructure.

There was hope for this land after all 🥹

In this part of Burkina Faso's Sahel region, the soil was getting drier year after year.

With ‪@hommesetterre1902‬ and local communities, we planted and protected 14,662 trees from diverse species 💚

To survive the dry conditions, trees are planted in half-moon-shaped pits that capture rainwater 💧

Restoration like this takes many years, but the landscape is already changing!
