The Horror Spotlight
Sorry, I have not been around, I came terrifyingly close to losing my life — and I’m not saying this to be dramatic. I was simply stopped at a red light, waiting patiently for it to change, when a truck slammed into the back of my car, crushing me forward into the vehicle in front of me. The driver wasn’t paying attention. Just like that — one moment of carelessness, and everything could have ended.
Every day on my commute to the office, I see accidents, near misses, reckless moves. I’ve always told myself it feels like playing Russian roulette with my life out there on the road. I’m a defensive driver — extremely careful. I can read the road, predict what drivers ten cars ahead, beside me, or behind me might do. But when you’re completely stopped at a light, you’re helpless. You’re a sitting duck. There’s nothing you can do if the person behind you isn’t watching.
My last accident was 38 years ago. I wasn’t even driving — my brother was. And he didn’t make it. That loss has lived with me every single day since. I’ll be damned if I’m going to leave this world the same way he did — especially just days before Christmas — because someone selfishly chose not to pay attention.
I thank God with all my heart for sparing me yesterday. And I truly believe my brother was with me, watching over me, keeping me safe in that moment. I felt him there.
Please, everyone — this holiday season, be careful out there. Stay aware of your surroundings. Put the phone down. Focus on the road. One second of distraction can take a life… or save one.
Your attention behind the wheel might be the greatest gift you give someone this Christmas.
Stay safe. I love you all. ❤️

Welcome to The Horror Spotlight
To my fans, colleagues, friends, and everyone online,
I recently received the summer issue of Fangoria Magazine and was deeply moved by the heartfelt eulogy for my mentor and cherished friend, Ted Kotcheff, who passed away on April 10, 2025. The tribute, beautifully written by Tony Timpone, captures Ted’s extraordinary legacy and brought back a flood of precious memories. It’s a powerful reminder of his impact, especially through his work like “Wake in Fright” which Tony helped reintroduce to cinema audiences.
I urge everyone to grab a copy of this issue—not just for Ted’s touching eulogy but for Fangoria’s stellar coverage of the horror and thriller genres, which I’m passionate about. It’s a must-read for anyone who loves this industry as much as I do. Thank you for sharing in this moment of remembrance.
With gratitude,
Antonio Saillant
