A Birthday Tribute to My Mother — The Woman Who Made Me Who I Am

Today we celebrate my mother’s birthday — a day to honor the woman who built my world with her hands, her prayers, and her unwavering faith. Whatever I am today — the confidence I wear, the work I do as a sports journalist, the life I have shaped for myself — every step of this journey is because of her.

She Refused to Let Me Live as ‘Disabled’

From my earliest memories, my mother would not allow me to accept blindness as a sentence. When doctors said things like, “He won’t be able to do this,” or “He can’t recognize colors or money,” she answered with certainty.

“He can do everything.”

She taught me to identify colors. She trained me to recognize currency notes. When specialists said a task was impossible, she quietly started teaching me until I could do it myself.

Many blind children are taught to rely on a white cane. My mother never let that become my only identity or my only way of moving in the world. She sent me outside confidently — to school, to college, to university, to cricket grounds for coverage, to play with friends — without forcing me to see myself as limited.

Because of her I learned to move in the world as if I had no disability. I walked with my head high, and she made sure I learned every task a non-disabled person does: studying, traveling alone, socializing, and pursuing my passions.

People often react in disbelief when I tell them some of the things I learned, my mother taught me to ride a bike. She supported me when I learned to drive. These were not casual lessons — they were acts of trust and courage on her part.

She never let my blindness stop my curiosity or my dreams. Instead she matched my desire with patient training and steady encouragement. Where others said “no,” she said, “try,” and kept trying until I could.

My Achievements Are Her Achievements.
so far Whatever recognition, respect, or small successes I have today — they belong to her as much as they belong to me. Her sacrifices, her prayers, her late-night worries turned into my strength. She stood by me when the world doubted me and gave me the confidence to stand in that doubt and keep moving forward.

If she had not been in my life, I might have had a very different path. I say this with complete honesty: if my mother had not been there, I would not be who I am today. As long as she is here, I am here. Without her, nothing would remain.

Among the many wishes my mother carries, there is one that has lived with her since my childhood: she wants me to marry a woman who can see and who has no disability. It is a simple, human wish — she wants me to have a partner who will share life with me in a way she imagines for my future.

I have not yet found that person, and sometimes I feel doubt about whether it will happen. But I believe in Allah’s plan. With Allah’s help, with my mother’s prayers, and with sincere effort, InshaAllah I will try my best to fulfill this wish for her. Nothing is impossible when a mother’s prayers accompany a son’s efforts.

My deepest prayer is for her long life and health. Alhamdulillah she is with me today, and every day I ask Allah to protect her, to keep her safe, and to reward her for every sacrifice. From the bottom of my heart I make this dua,

“O Allah, grant my mother a long, healthy, and blessed life. If any of us must go first, let it be me. Give me her years and her comfort. Shower her with Your mercy and make her days joyful.”

This is not despair — it is the pure love of a son who cannot imagine this world without his mother.

A Request to My Followers, Friends, and Supporters

To everyone who follows me, watches my work, and supports me: I humbly ask you to join me in this prayer. Please remember my mother in your duas — pray for her long life, for her health, and for Allah’s protection over her always. Your prayers mean more to us than words can express.

Allah says that paradise lies at a mother’s feet.
And — it is truth. My mother is my dunya and my akhirah. She is my guiding light in this world and my greatest hope for the next.

On this birthday, I thank Allah for keeping her with me. I thank my mother for every single lesson, every painful sacrifice, and every reassuring word that turned doubt into possibility. Whatever I am, whatever I will become, it is because of her.

Happy Birthday, Ammi.
May Allah bless you, protect you, and keep you with me always. I love you — today, tomorrow, and forever.
