How to Access the Premium Subscription on WhatsApp 👀

Little by little, WhatsApp is starting to look less like “just a messaging app” and more like a full ecosystem. Mark really woke up one morning and said, “what if chats… but capitalism.” 😭

A lot of people sent me P.DM after my previous post asking how to find the Premium Subscription feature on WhatsApp, so here’s a quick tutorial for anyone curious.

Personally, I still feel WhatsApp was meant to stay completely free 😅 but at this point, it’s obvious Meta has bigger plans for the app.

Anyway, if you want to check yours:

1️⃣ Open WhatsApp
2️⃣ Click the three-dot (⋮) icon at the top right
3️⃣ Tap on Settings
4️⃣ Right beneath your profile section, you may see Premium Subscription

If it appears on your account, then congrats… you’ve officially entered Mark Zuckerberg’s VIP lounge 😂

⚠️ MONEY TRANSFER UPDATE – PLEASE READ (Effective 2026)

From January 2026, it will be necessary to always include a clear payment description whenever you transfer money to anyone — myself included. This is strongly advised for tax and financial record purposes.
When sending money, kindly use clear remarks such as:

• Gift
• Loan
• Loan refund
• Rent
• School-related expenses
• Feeding
• Medical support
• Financial assistance, etc.

Why this is important:
By 2026, funds received without an explanation may automatically be classified as income by tax authorities (IRS or equivalent). This could lead to tax deductions or requests for proof of where the money came from.

Although the first ₦800,000 may not be taxed, any additional unexplained deposits could attract up to 20% tax, and in serious situations, raise legal concerns.

To stay safe:
✔️ Always add a payment narration
✔️ Avoid transfer methods that don’t allow descriptions (including some USSD options)
✔️ Confirm the correct narration with the recipient before sending

Let’s start practicing proper payment descriptions now to prevent future issues.
