I consatntly tell myself that I should understand this… I have been learning for years. Why is this so easy for others? When I try, I say it wrong.
I know that I have words and grammar, it is just somehow not accessible when I need them!!
For example, when I am in the hospoda with friends, I sit silent, wait for my partner to get back from the toilet to save me."

✖️ What if they will think I am stupid since I cannot put a simple sentence together?

✖️ What if they will switch to English because my Czech is too slow?

✖️ What if they will be impatient, judging me?

✖️ What if they will ignore me because I am that euughfffff another foreigner? [read “euughfffff” as someone making an annoyed face :-D]



But what if we don’t actually know what this moment means?

✔️ What if they visited your country and would be happy to chat about it?

✔️ What if they know exactly how hard it is to learn a foreign language?

✔️ What if they are simply in a hurry, tired or going through something very difficult?

✔️ What if their reaction has very little to do with your Czech?



When we stop assuming that every awkward moment means something bad about us, we will be less stressed and will be able to react better.



Ale nejdůležitější:

we will stop entering Czech conversations like someone who is a burden.

Because you are not a burden, you are not "euughfffff another foreigner". You are a wonderful human being trying to connect with another human being.

And slow(czech)ly, this is how your courage grows.
