We have a winner!! Be sure to add Gunmetal Gods to your TBR for May so we can chat about it throughout the month!

Since this is our first month doing this, I'm sure there will be a bit of trial and error as we hone things and figure out what works best. But for now, here's how I'm thinking the book club will work:

Weekly discussions on sections of the book to keep us on track:
- May 9: Chapters 1-9
- May 16: Chapters 10-19
- May 23: Chapters 20-29
- May 27: Chapters 30-36

I'll do another poll for how we want to meet up to discuss. We can do a Zoom meeting, a Discord call, a YouTube or TikTok live, or anything else you think would work better. My goal is to continue to build this community so we can foster connections with other like-minded readers and writers.

If you have any book suggestions for the June indie book club, drop them in the comments! We want to only do indie/self-pub fantasy, and they need to be relatively well-known/popular.

It's time to start an Indie Fantasy Book Club!! What should we read for May?

Book clubs are a fun way to hear a bunch of different perspectives and opinions on some popular books out there. I want to incorporate this as part of the channel just to get more Inklings involved and continue to build this community. I'm sure you're tired of me yapping on these reviews, so this is your chance to add your two cents to the conversation :)

I'll plan to have weekly update discussions over on my Discord channel, and I'll make a video about all of our collective thoughts and opinions. I'll also make sure to create posts here to nurture the discussion on other platforms. The video may feature your comments!

Here are the four books in contention for May. Vote for your favorite!

It's time for another TBR lottery!! Since it's been a while, here's a refresher on how the selection process works...
- 5 books will be selected
- 2 from the first-come-first-serve submission list
- 1 randomly selected from all physical copies
- 1 randomly selected from entire submission tbr
- 1 IFC pick

I'll also be reading some sequels in between some of these selections. Some of the books I've been eagerly awaiting include:
- Supplicant by Delilah Waan
- Ill is the Fate by Chance Dillon
- Blood and Soul by Brett Lurie
- Sparrows Sing of Dying by RD Pires
- Wargames! by Paul Fortunato
- Kings of Ash by Richard Nell

So many great books... so little time! Thanks again for all your submissions, and may luck be in your favor for this upcoming draft :)

Another busy month ahead!! Excited to dive back into the reviews, and really looking forward to the next TBR lottery on April 5 (time TBD).

Thank you so much for all your support! I love what we're building here Inklings! It's crazy how many hidden gems I've come across this year. It's going to make choosing the diamond winner an absolute nightmare lol.

It's gonna be a fun month for content! We may have a few collabs in the pipeline that could effect the schedule, but it's still pending right now. Stay tuned.

Who is the fantasy author GOAT??

In honor of March Madness, I created a seeded bracket for fantasy authors. Using this bracket, who would make it into the Sweet 16, the Top 8, the Final 4 and of course, who would come out on top as the Greatest Fantasy Author of All Time?

This bracket includes 32 authors, divided into 4 conferences. I tried to determine the rankings and matchups based on my experience, the author legacy, books written and sold, quality of the story, impact on fantasy, etc. Feel free to let me know if I left anyone out that should be in this tournament.

Here is my seedings for the four conferences. Who moves on?

Dragon Conference
- 1. George RR Martin vs. 8. Will Wight
- 2. Robin Hobb vs. 7. SA Chakraborty
- 3. Ursula K Le Guin vs. 6. Terry Brooks
- 4. Scott Lynch vs. 5 John Gwynne

Kraken Conference
- 1. CS Lewis vs. 8. Ryan Cahill
- 2. Joe Abercrombie vs. 7. Brent Weeks
- 3. NK Jemison vs. 6. RF Kuang
- 4. Patrick Rothfuss vs. 5. Neil Gaiman

Unicorn Conference
- 1. Brandon Sanderson vs. 8. Tad Williams
- 2. JK Rowling vs. 7. Jim Butcher
- 3. Terry Pratchett vs. 6. Fonda Lee
- 4. Guy Gavriel Kay vs. 5. Stephen King

Phoenix Conference
- 1. JRR Tolkien vs. 8. Christopher Paolini
- 2. Steven Erikson vs. 7. VE Schwab
- 3. Robert Jordan vs. 6. Ann McCaffrey
- 4. Sarah J Maas vs. 5. Terry Goodkind

Who comes out on top? Are there any big upsets?? I know Tolkien is probably the favorite to win, but it'd be interesting to see what you all think on this. Keep the discussion competitive, but respectful.

Going live to do some more book unboxings!

Let's talk about your favorite mythical creatures you like to read/see in fantasy stories. I think that's a topic that will keep us entertained as we review some of these submissions.

Take a gander at what's on the docket for March!

Plenty of book reviews are keeping me on track to my 50 indie book goal. I think I'm at 11/50, with only 2 of those being DNFs. So that's a pretty good start to the year in my opinion.

I'm also prepping for my Sequel Spree, which will probably happen next month. Books on my radar include:
- Kings of Ash by Richard Nell
- Sparrows Sing of Dying by RD Pires
- Ill is the Fate by Chance Dillon
- Supplicant by Delilah Waan
- Blood and Soul by Brett Lurie
- Heaven's Chains by Jeremy Bruce Adams
- Wargames! by Paul Fortunado

Now will I get to all of these in just 30 days??... I'm not super confident in my reading speed for that, regardless of how much I love these books. So we'll try to get to them all, but if not, I'll be sprinkling them in throughout the year. Those reviews will be coming in April.

Thanks for being part of the Indie Fantasy Club! If you've read this message all the way to the end, you are privvy to a secret (don't mention it in the comments). There is a big announcement dropping this month (the ranking video might be a decoy... who knows?). Stay tuned...
