Little stone cottages, winding roads, greenery everywhereā¦
Very humbling realising how little you actually need to feel settledā¦
Village life in Allendale, #Northumberland will have you considering a cottage move, until you remember that mobile signals are non existent and WiFi is a lifeline.
Meet T - a young man whoās been in hospital for a more than 18 months, waiting for a heart transplant. In all that time, something as simple as getting his hair done hadnāt been possible. But it mattered. Not just for how he looks, but for how he feels; his identity, his confidence, his sense of self in a space that can take so much from you.
Hannah from Youth Focus: North East reached out, having been working behind the scenes to make this happen. Finally today, we showed up.
His hair was re-locād and styled. This moment went beyond hair. It was about dignity, culture, and making sure he felt seen as more than a patient.
Empowering people and communities is much more⦠Itās about recognising that not everyone has access, not everyone can simply book in, and not everyone is moving through life in the same way. Sometimes the work is about stepping into spaces where youāre needed most.
Iāve promised to stay in touch with T and thank Hannah for making the connection so Kulture Kurls can work its magic, and to Red Sky Foundation for supporting this, and to the team at the Freeman Hospital for holding the space, so we can uplift T.
It might seem small to some, but moments like this mean so much more.
From Co-op Live to a full-circle moment with āŖ@WuTangClan⬠- The Final Chamber takes you through music, memory, and legacy in a way only real cultural reflection can.
This isnāt just about a concert. Itās about what Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) meant then⦠and what it still means now. The era it shifted. The solo greatness that followed. The sound that never really left.
And yes, the energy, the icons, the reality of time⦠all in one room.
If you grew up on this, or even if you didnāt but understand what music can carry, this one is worth your time.
Saturday marked the very first She Rises get-together, and what a powerful beginning it was.
The room was filled with rich, honest and generous conversations. Women listening deeply, sharing lived experiences, and holding space for one another with the shared intention of growth, healing and empowerment. There was something truly special about seeing familiar faces reconnect, alongside new connections forming naturally within the space.
A huge thank you to One Strawberry Lane for hosting us so beautifully, and to our incredible caterers for the abundance of delicious African and South Asian dishes that kept us nourished throughout. ā¦
Some lessons this year cut deep - trust, authenticity, and the weight of showing up for community.
It hasnāt been easy. Not everyone in your circle is truly for you. But protecting your peace, staying authentic, and showing up anyway? Thatās the work that lasts.
Today weāre celebrating every curl, coil, kink and crown. The beauty, the history, the creativity - all of it. Our hair tells stories of survival, migration, joy, innovation, and style thatās been passed from generation to generation.
But celebration also means action. Too many of us still face discrimination and pressure to conform.
Over 500 people have already signed our petition to ban hair discrimination in the north east and Cumbria but we need even more voices to make it happen.
Celebrate with us. Sign the petition. Protect our hair.
Weāre calling this the #TribeTesi Issue with so much gratitude šš¾

šA moving blog by Ngozi Lyn Cole. šOur most-read piece, āThe Day Karma Knocked Loudly.ā šAnd the Black hair petition - which led to national attention, including a BBC feature on hair discrimination.
Weāre thankful to Sticks and Stones Studios for giving space to these narratives. Itās humbling to see how far the work of Tribe Tesi can travel, and a reminder that stories told with honesty and purpose always find resonance. ā¦
A gathering created by and for Black women and women of colour. A space to breathe, to rise, and to be reminded that our stories, our struggles, and our triumphs are deeply connected.
Weāll share journeys, celebrate resilience, and root ourselves in purpose, together.

As I reflect on the journey of Tribe Tesi, some pieces stand out for the way they capture the essence of our community and values. One such piece is āUnveiling the Essence of Being an African Womanā. Resharing this blog feels important because it reminds us of the beauty, strength, and resilience inherent in African womanhood - a celebration of heritage, identity, and the power of community that continues to inspire us today.
Even years later, the themes of empowerment, sisterhood, and cultural pride remain as relevant as ever. Revisiting this blog is a chance to honour the women who shape our lives, challenge societal expectations, and lead with grace and courage. Itās a reminder that our roots and stories carry lessons, inspiration, and strength for the present and future.
This guest post by Ngozi Lyn Cole is not just a story, itās a moment of awakening, strength, and self-truth.
Itās the kind of writing that tugs at something deep and honest inside you. From navigating identity in a new land to reclaiming her voice through her name, Ngoziās journey is a bold reminder of how our stories shape who we become. A must-read.
