In 2024, astronomers discovered the “Big Ring,” a colossal ring-shaped structure of galaxies located 9.2 billion light-years away near the constellation Boötes. Spanning 1.3 billion light-years in diameter, this structure challenges our understanding of the universe's uniformity, known as the Cosmological Principle. Its existence suggests that the cosmos may be more complex and less homogeneous than previously thought.
