Every summer, I make grand plans for all the content I'm going to create, and every summer we get caught up with summer family adventures, and very little content creation happens. So for this week, I've clipped our conversation about DVC's Signal into a separate video!
Both Milo and I (unbeknownst to each other) picked this as our biggest board gaming surprise of 2025 so far, and it was a lot of fun to revisit this brief conversation!
Have you played any DVC Games? They make some of the most unique games we've seen in a long, long time and they're absolutely worth a look!
Micro Game May is nearly over, and I had intended to provide some video coverage for several of the family-friendly games that are being featured this year, but time was sadly not on my side. 😭
Still, I'd like to highlight a handful of the games while there's still time in their crowdfunding campaigns. So let's go!
🎃 Cinderella at Midnight is a strategic solo card maze, that I could absolutely see playing cooperatively with my kiddos. In this game, we're trying to help Cinderella complete her fairy tale tasks, and find her way back to the pumpkin carriage before time runs out. It's a tiny game that tells a story, complete with secret passages, pesky step-sisters, and a lot more tension that it might seem at a glance!
⏱ Speaking of running out, the campaign for this one ends in just a few hours! There are some fun printable bonuses with this one, including large-size colouring cards, which might actually wind up being our favourite way to play. Ooh, and there's even a Cinderella at Midnight promo card using the One Card Maze system!
We'll be aiming to sneak in a few more Micro Game May posts before all the campaigns turn back into regular ol' pumpkins, but don't wait around for us - go search the Micro May tag on Kickstarter right now!
And now for something a little big different ... I was recently a guest on the @AmericanResiliency channel, talking about keeping a playful spirit in challenging times.
Did the conversation turn to dexterity games? Maaaaaaybe. 🤪
Fluffy Dragons from @lamfgames is in its final hours on Kickstarter! 🐉 It’s a surprisingly great introduction to bluffing, hand management, and a healthy dose of “take that” mechanisms.
Quick games that take 30 mins or less are critical for us, and Fluffy Dragons fits the bill. Cute pieces, interactive gameplay, and a relatively short play time? Sounds like a great fit for Little Big Thumbs!
We recently received a bundle of CoraQuest goodies for review, and I'm thinking that putting together this 250-piece puzzle might be the perfect introduction to the world of West Orcshire!
When we visit toy and game stores, it's always 1000-piece puzzles as far as the eye can see. But for us, 250 pieces makes for the perfect pre-bedtime activity.
Let us know if you'd like to see a video speed run of this puzzle being pieced together!
Can of Worms recently arrived from @FoxMindToysGames, and it's turned out to be a lovely little treat of a game! 🪱🥫 Little Bean has been advised to work on her block counting, so this game couldn't have shown up at a better time.
To keep everyone on their toes, this cute math game also has some fun push-your-luck AND memory elements, with worms of various lengths hiding in the can lid. For instance, if we're looking to pull a total length of 7, and our first worm is 5 sections long, we're asking ourselves if we want to risk an extra pull to hopefully score a point, or do we pass the buck to the next player?
To make this game extra special for me, it's designed by Mary Jo Reutter - the mind behind one of my all-time favourite dexterity games, Sumo Ham Slam!
We're going to be showing this one to the Grade 1 teachers at school, and adding Can of Worms to our travelling kids collection for community events. It's great fun, with a sneaky side of learning thrown in!
