My memories extend from the final days of steam in the mid to late 1960’s through the decades to today’s modern diesel and electric traction.
My interest in railways extends beyond the trains themselves to railway stations and railway infrastructure. I enjoy researching railway history along with the architecture the railways built from bridges & viaducts, to signal boxes and level crossings.
My videos range from locations as far afield as the Far North of Scotland through to the far South-West of Cornwall.
Please check out the Playlists section for a complete list of the videos available which are split into geographical areas, mainline, branch lines & heritage.
The videos from Devon and Cornwall are particularly special for me as my interest in railways began around the stations of Plymouth where I would often come TrainSpotting after school in the late 1960’s & into the 1970’s. The rest as they say is history!.
Thank you for watching my videos.

A year ago today (Tuesday 16th July 2024) …………
The Midland Railway Signal Box which stands proudly at the northern end of the ‘Up’ Platform at Armathwaite Station (on the Settle / Carlisle line) was celebrating its 125th Birthday.
A special open day was held to celebrate this major milestone.
The box is cared for by the Friends of the Settle / Carlisle Line and was an opportunity for John Summers Johnson and Katherine Tuck to showcase the incredible work that they do behind the scenes in looking after this preserved signal box including opening it up to the public on Sundays throughout the year along with other selected dates.
The event was also very much about the memory of the late Mike Carrier, a local resident at Armathwaite, who played a significant role in saving the signal box from dereliction following its closure by BR in 1983.
Ongoing news about the signal box can be found by subscribing to their Facebook page ‘Armathwaite signal box’.
This was one of my favourite videos from 2024 and I hope watching it will encourage you to visit.
